Still, no rain. I can’t recall a time when we’ve gone so long without rain. Nor can I recall a time when it’s been so hot. A few days ago I drove several miles away from Lake Michigan. The temperature was 103º F. I believe this is the highest natural temperature I’ve ever experienced. Air that hot engulfs your whole body and penetrates right into your lungs. I can’t imagine a cold weather descendent like me ever living in the desert.
The heat finally broke two days ago.
The hedge is looking a lot better now with the combination of ample watering and a thorough spraying of worm tea. Worm tea is a truly miraculous foliar feed for any sort of plant life. An infusion of compost or manure has the same beneficial effect as worm castings.
All things considered, I’m pleased with the garden so far this season. I do wish, though, that we’d get some more rain.
